This long narrative poem movingly follows the author's jouney in the immediate hours and weeks after 9/11. Through rich personal details we begin to understand that it is both the story of the external tragedy and her internal struggle with our mortality.
From Lost
All things are lost in time,
People too.
But the past is always with us,
making its way through the crust of
memory,
sometimes a twisted weed,
sometimes a flower,
a collage from what used to be.
I hold on to what I can.
I hold on to keep from getting lost.
